Thousands of Blacks Claim Strom Thurmond as Their Ancestor
COLUMBIA, South Carolina In the wake of 78-year old Essie Mae Washington-Williams' public announcement last week that she is the love child of the late South Carolina Senator, Strom Thurmond, thousands of blacks have come forward with similar stories.
They claim to be sons and daughters and grandchildren of the Senator, and many have large families they have raised that knew of the relationship. This would finally seem to explain how this seemingly racist politician kept getting re-elected to the Senate term after term.
"I just couldn't vote against my Daddy," said Lionel Lincoln. "My Momma told me who he was at an early age and, even though I hated seeing him in those pointy white hats, he was still my Daddy."
Sixty-seven year old Eula Jean Baker has over 43 children and grandchildren all told, and she proudly tells how they all used to work to get out the vote from the black community for Senator Thurmond. "I'd say, lookie here now, deep down this man loves us! Look how he took after my Momma!"
The final tally of just how many children Senator Thurmond sired is not in yet, but the Guinness Book of World Records is following events closely.
