Christian Heavy Metal Band, P.O.D., Denies it was in 'The Matrix Reloaded'

NASHVILLE — Christian heavy metal band, P.O.D., was thrilled when it was asked to cut a track for The Matrix Reloaded movie. It was on the brink of breaking up, after guitarist Marcos had left. But the experience of recording a track for The Matrix Reloaded saved the band, according to P.O.D. frontman, Sonny Sandoval, in an interview published when the band released its music video of the track. The song, 'Sleeping Awake,' is filled with soaring vocals and evocative guitar lines, and its lyrics touch on religious discovery.
"The movie has a lot of biblical themes, and so [the directors] wanted to keep that vibe," said Sandoval in the interview. "I got the concept [for the lyrics] from Daniel interpreting King Nebuchadnezzar's dreams in the Old Testament."
However, after the critics trashed the movie, Sandovaal denied that P.O.D. was involved in the movie.
"That wasn't us," said Sandovaal. "It was a knock-off group pretending to be us."
Now, Christian bookstores across the country have refused to carry the band's latest record, Payable on Death, because of the cover, which either depicts a naked woman with butterfly wings, her arms crossed over her breasts and a banner with the word 'Sanctus' (a Latin word for the sung part of the preface in Mass) across her nether region, or a Christ-like androgynous person. You choose.
Sandovaal said record sales made through Christian bookstores are vital to P.O.D.
"That's not our cover," he said. "That's a knock-off cover.'
