Tenet Suffers "Wardrobe Malfunction," Says He Did Not Say "Imminent"
WASHINGTON, DC CIA Director, George Tenet, speaking out for the first time against critics of the US intelligence community, suffered what aides later called a "wardrobe malfunction" at the climax of his speech.
Speaking at Georgetown University, Tenet, in answer to many who have raised the question of the veracity of the Bush Administration's claim that Iraq was an "imminent threat" to the United States, fired back that he never actually used the word "imminent" in his memos to the President.
"If you check the record you will find I used words like approaching, brewing, close, coming, expectant, fast-approaching, following, forthcoming, gathering, immediate, impending, in prospect, in store, in view, ineluctable, inescapable, inevasible, inevitable, likely, looming, menacing, near, nearing, next, nigh, overhanging, possible, probable,
threatening, to come, unavoidable, and inescapable, but never did I ever use the word imminent!"
And with that he went to pound his chest and apparently got his hand caught in the lapel of his coat tearing both the coat and his shirt and exposing his bare breast.
Both CNN and Fox News were carrying the broadcast live, and there is no word yet from the FCC on whether there will be any penalties assessed for the airing.
