Rudolph Giuliani is Time Magazine's Person of the Year for 2001
Rudy Gets Two Covers For His Time Magazine Awards
NEW YORK After risking losing readers and advertisers by considering naming Osama Bin Laden as its Person of the Year - the person who most influenced the world, for good or bad - Time Magazine came to its senses and chose New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani as its Person of the Year for 2001.
This award used to be known as Man of the Year until feminists complained about the use of the word "Man." So the editors of Time now call the award Person of the Year.
But in addition to naming Rudy their Person of the Year, the editors of Time went two steps further.
"He's not only our Person of the Year," they said, "he's our Man of the Year because what he did after September 11 was manly."
And, in addition, the magazine is issuing half of its year-end edition with a manly Rudy on the cover, and half with the other Rudy we have come to know.
