Renee Zellweger Takes Break From Acting, Gains 50 Pounds
LOS ANGELES After promoting her latest film Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason, Renee Zellweger is taking a break from acting.
“I plan to step away from the limelight, stop acting for a while and learn what it is like to be just a fat girl," said the 35-year old Zellweger, who said she planned to gain 50 pounds and get back to her natural weight. Zellweger lost 50 pounds to play the Bridget Jones’ character, who was meant to be 30 pounds overweight.
The first Bridget Jones' Diary in 2001 made Zellweger a star as audiences fell in love with her portrayal of the plump, single British woman who drinks, smokes, curses and stumbles her way through her love life. The movie racked up $250 million in worldwide box office receipts, based on her blousy rack.
She followed with her Oscar-nominated role as the murdering showgirl, Roxie Hart, in the movie version of the Broadway musical Chicago, and she won an Oscar as best supporting actress playing a tough farm girl in the Civil War drama, Cold Mountain.
“I lost 80 pounds for those two roles,” she said. “My tits disappeared so I had to stuff socks into my bra cup!.”
“I hate the way I looked playing Bridget,” said Zellweger. “So freakin’ skinny!”
Zellweger is also looking forward to stopping acting a goody-two shoes. She plans to hook up with her pal, Courtney Love, do some dope and have wild sex with total strangers.
