Hillary Will Ask Bill Clinton to Conduct Foreign Affairs
MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa Hillary Clinton has said that if she is elected President, she would make her husband an ambassador.
“He will be our roving ambassador,” she told at a town hall meeting in a junior high school gymnasium in Marshalltown. “He has the eye for it. Besides, it will get him out of the house.”
"I can't think of a better cheerleader for America, can you?" she asked. "He has said he would like to go – or do – abroad.
"I'm very lucky that my husband is so experienced in foreign affairs," she added, “as well as domestic. And he’s doing his bit to stop the spread of AIDS. He told me that he demonstrates the use of condoms when he travels.”
On the campaign trail, Hillary has toughened her rhetoric lately by offering sharply populist themes, such as soaking the rich.
"Rich people didn't make American great," Clinton said. "It was the middle class who made this country great."
“The top 5% of earners pay 95% of all income tax collect by the government,” she said, “and they helped pay for all the railroads, highways, bridges, schools and hospitals throughout this great country. But if they think that their productivity and hard work gives them some special right to enjoy the money they have left after we take our tax bite, they should think again! I’ll increase their taxes until they squeal like the pigs they are!
“True, the middle class pays only 3% of the taxes we collect. But they have the votes!”
In Marshalltown, Iowa, she was pressed on the immigration issue in a city where a raid at a local meatpacking plant led to the detention of nearly 100 undocumented workers.
“We need the illegals to do the jobs that keep our community going,” said one resident. “What will you do to get us more illegals?”
Hillary responded by calling for more assistance for cities with significant numbers of undocumented workers.
"The government – meaning rich people who pay taxes – should do more to provide entitlements to illegals. They need healthcare and schooling too, especially bilingual education, and we need stronger teacher unions. But we should be tough on businesses that hire illegal aliens – businesses and illegal aliens, by the way, can’t vote!”
