NBA Fines and Suspends Artest, But Reverses Itself in a Surprise Twist
NEW YORK Indiana Pacers forward, Ron Artest, was fined $35,000 and suspended for three games by the NBA for smashing a TV cameraman's high definition camera, after a 98-96 loss to the Knicks last Friday. The camera was worth $100,000.
The NBA said that the fine would be applied to the damages to the camera, and that Artest will be likely asked to pay the balance of the cost. A spokesman for the NBA told our reporter that Artest would also have to "get to da back of da bus."
But the NBA then abruptly reversed itself and cancelled the penalties when it discovered that the cameraman was none other than movie-maker Spike Lee, masquerading as an MSG Network cameraman. "This new information changes everything," said the NBA spokesman. "That trash-talking maniac deserves what he got."
