WASHINGTON, D.C., 2009-08-03 Vice President Joe Biden is appalled by the continuing series of gaffes that President Obama is making, ridiculing Special Olympians, referring to people of mixed race as "mutts", promising unemployment would not go above 8%, and most recently accusing the Boston police of racial profiling in the Gates case without any proof.
"I cringe every time he ad libs," said Biden, "waiting for the next shoe to drop. We are desperately trying to get him to stick to reading the teleprompter."
Biden noted that Obama was fairly successful in avoiding gaffes during the campaign, with the notable exception of telling Joe the Plumber that he wanted to "spread the wealth."
"He inadvertently revealed his real agenda with that slip," said Biden, "but he was able to deny it successfully, so that people are now surprised that he is governing as a redistributionist."
But Biden pointed out a more serious gaffe that Obama, made during the campaign. "When he misspoke in a debate with Hillary and said he would talk unconditionally to Iraq," said Biden, "he locked himself into a foreign policy that is costing him now. He is offering talks with Iraq while they thumb their noses at him and are very close to producing a nuclear weapon. He is offering talks to every rogue state! What other U.S. President conducted foreign policy based on a campaign error?"
"I think before I speak," said Biden. "That's why you don't hear me saying any dumb things."
